A Welcoming Community

One of the most remarkable qualities of Hiawatha is its warm and welcoming community. Living in a small town allows you to forge deep connections with residents and build lasting relationships with both patients and colleagues. You’ll experience a strong sense of belonging where people genuinely care for one another.

The Halloween Frolic has been held annually in Hiawatha since 1914. In the early years, the children dressed in costumes and decorated their trikes and wagons — the first floats! This charming tradition has since expanded to include a Kiddie Parade in the afternoon that starts with hundreds of local children in costumes riding decorated bikes, trikes, wagons, horses and family floats. The Grand Parade in the evening includes dignitaries such as the Governor of Kansas and other community leaders, high school bands, large floats and Shrine units. This incredibly special night parade is the the oldest Halloween parade in the nation.

Our therapists get into the spirit by hosting a Shoebox Float Contest during Halloween and Sensory Santa / Sensory Easter Bunny visits during the holidays for children in the low-stress, calm and engaging environment of our clinic.

Contrary to popular belief, small towns like Hiawatha can offer a diverse patient population. Hiawatha offers a slower pace of life, allowing you to enjoy the simple pleasures during your downtime. Whether you prefer to explore the picturesque prairie countryside, see a movie at the local theater or dine with friends to unwind and rejuvenate —  or engage in community events like the Maple Leaf Festival, the Jingle Bell Ride and Merry and Bright Night — Hiawatha provides ample opportunities to enjoy life outside of work.
