Managers Learn About Reality-based Leadership

Late April was a busy time for RehabVisions in Omaha. We hosted 43 of our hospital and clinic rehab directors for their annual meeting. As always lots of learning, networking and comradery took place, and everyone ended their time together energized for the future.

Emphasis this year was on Reality-Based Leadership, a philosophy that managers learned at last year’s meeting. They were asked to read the book, “No Ego, How Leaders Can Cut the Cost of Workplace Drama, End Entitlement, and Drive Big Results.” Since then, they have had virtual training and conference call discussions about the concept. Ana Martos, a speaker and director of operations with the Reality-Based Leadership organization, presented even further on the topic in a full morning of discussions.

Attendees and home office employees at our 2019 Hospital/Clinic Managers Meeting in Omaha, Nebraska.

Director of Operations Tracy Milius, OT said they devoted time in the training and having Ana speak because RehabVisions is invested in our managers and helping to develop them as leaders of the organization. She said everyone can take something away from the Reality-Based Leadership training. “The philosophy just makes sense,” she said. “It gives us tools to realize some of the destructive behavior that can get in the way of progress.”

Clinical topics included an introduction to a standardized falls and balance program as well as “hot topics” in therapy. Compliance discussions focused on overall ethics and the denials and appeals process. The HR and marketing departments presented as well.

But as always, the managers ability to network during breaks and in the evening was appreciated by all. “There is always power in getting them all together,” Tracy said.

One manager agreed and wrote on the meeting evaluation form, “Great Managers Meeting once again. Blend of specific presentation and time for networking. Thank you!” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
